As August winds down and we set our sights on September, it pays to keep fall maintenance in mind!
Take advantage of early autumn weather by getting ahead on your home maintenance to-do list. Below are BuilderPR’s top tips for taking care of your home come fall.
#1: Clean Your Gutters
Depending on where you live, your gutters may get regularly cluttered with leaves. Make sure those gutters and downspouts stay clear and unobstructed.
It’s a lot easier to maintain those clean gutters now than it will be if you let the leaves freeze together come December!
#2: Store Garden Hoses
As it gets closer to winter and the colder months, you’ll want to make sure to properly drain out and then store your garden hoses. This will prevent them from filling up with ice and potentially becoming damaged if left out all winter.
#3: Have Your Furnace Inspected
This is a big one! Don’t find out too late that your furnace is down for the count. Be sure to have your furnace inspected annually to make sure all systems are functioning properly.
A regular inspection will also help ensure that your furnace is running at its most efficient levels, which can save you money in the long run. Who doesn’t like saving money?
#4: Check Your Chimney
If you have a fireplace, make sure you’re properly checking your chimney before lighting your first fire! You’ll want to check for creosote, which can form when wood isn’t burned completely. Keeping your chimney clean will help you prevent a chimney fire.
#5: Examine the Exterior
Fall is the perfect time to carefully inspect the exterior of your home! Make sure there are no cracks a critter can sneak through when the nights grow colder, and check out your windows as well. It will be much easier to spot damage now than in the middle of a snowstorm.
Of course, this is only the tip of the iceberg! What do you do each fall to prep for winter?
